Committed to traveling, dreams getting closer

by Dan Fey on October 17, 2011

Phew, this was a big week – I informed my boss that I will be leaving in January to travel around the world and made my first significant financial investment, $418 for the Hepatitis A, Polio, and Japanese Encephalitis vaccines. It’s both exciting and scary to make the first real commitments to traveling around the world. On one hand, making progress towards the goal is fulfilling. On the other hand, there is still a lot of uncertainty, especially after giving up your job. The overall feeling is happiness and liberation with just enough uneasiness to get the heart pumping.

It’s been a while since my last post – about a month and a half. Though I made some great progress this week, I’ve had my hands full launching Blistt, running the NorCal Tough Mudder, and hosting Runsploring events. Based on my planning timeline, I’m behind schedule for booking my flight and ahead of schedule for getting vaccines. The goal for the next few weeks is to finalize my starting location and high level itinerary (and purchase my ticket), identify any countries where advanced visas are required, and find the right travel insurance for this trip.

Below is a good start on the high level itinerary (along with cost estimates) based on weather patterns:
