Where to start?

by Dan Fey on September 2, 2011

I’ve been thinking a lot about where would be best to start this adventure.  First, I thought starting in Europe would be best to ease the transition into backpacking life.  I could to learn how to live as a backpacker before I take on the more exotic places in the world.

Next, I thought it might be better to just jump right into Japan and culture shock myself.  I would gain the most from an experience like that, right?  Also, if I travel East to West, I could focus on the places I want and cut Europe out if I want/need to (I explain why I would cut Europe out here).

I also have to think about my ski adventure.  At first, I thought it would be really cool to ski somewhere in Utah or Colorado, but why not try and get a job in Austria or even Japan?  It might be tough getting a work visa or getting a job, but it would certainly be worth if it is possible.  I could not only ski all the time, but I would also be making a little money to sustain my travels.

Lastly, I’m also looking into Birthright.  Israel is place I’d really like to see on this trip.  If I sign up for Birthright, I could possibly start my trip (or end it) with a free flight to (or from) Israel.  That is definitely worth looking into.

The first thing I have to focus on is where I’ll be skiing.  After that’s in place, it will be easier to figure out where to start.
